A memorial service will be held at Arthur F. White Funeral Home of Farmingdale at 11:00 am on January 9, 2015. A visitation will be held at the Funeral Home at 5:00 pm – 8:00 pm on January 8, 2015.
Burial will be at Long Island National Cemetery, Farmingdale, NY at 2:00 pm on January 10, 2015. (or Burial will be private)
Henry Robert Sample, 82, passed away on Monday, January 5, 2015 at his home in Farmingdale, New York. He was born on January 15, 1933 in Albany, NY to Joseph and Margaret (nee Doe) Sample. Shortly after Henry was born, the family moved to Farmingdale, NY.
Henry grew up in Farmingdale, NY. He graduated from Farmingdale High School in 1950. After high school he attended university at the Hofstra College (now Hofstra University) in Uniondale, NY where he received a degree in Business. After graduation, Henry joined the US Navy and proudly served in the Submarine Warfare Division. In 1958, he was honorably discharged from the Navy and began work for the Sperry Corporation in its Lake Success, NY plant until his retirement in 1998.
Henry married Beth in 1957 in New London, CT while he was stationed at the Naval Submarine Base New London. They were happily married for 58 years.
Henry was a member of the Long Island Chess Club and was very involved with the Rotary Club of Farmingdale. He enjoyed golf, fishing, playing chess and spending time with his family. He was honored to receive a lifetime achievement award for his 20+ years of volunteer work with the Rotary Club.
Henry was preceded in death by his parents Joseph and Margaret Sample; his brothers Mark and Gary; his sister Samantha; and his son Jack (Jane) Sample.
Henry is survived by his wife Beth of Farmingdale, NY; his son Joseph (Maggie) Sample of Orlando, FL; his daughter Sandy (Dave) Granger of Lancaster, PA; his grandchildren Karen, Caleb and Jake, his great-grandchildren Kim and Jimmie; and his loving nieces, nephews and numerous other relatives.
